Wa ja’alnaa mim baini aydeehim saddanw-wa min khalfihim saddan fa aghshai naahum fahum laa yubsiroon

हमने उनकी गर्दनों में (भारी-भारी लोहे के) तौक़ डाल दिए हैं और ठुड्डियों तक पहुँचे हुए हैं कि वह गर्दनें उठाए हुए हैं (सर झुका नहीं सकते)

Have they not noticed what number of generations We wrecked before them, which without a doubt returned not unto them;

وَاِنْ كُلٌّ لَّمَّا جَمِيْعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُوْنَ ࣖ

Adapun hikmah penurunan Al-Qur'an antara lain untuk memberi peringatan kepada bangsa Arab yang belum pernah diutus kepada mereka seorang rasul. Dalam ayat ini disebutkan kerusakan moral bangsa Arab akibat sifat lalai dalam hati mereka. Hati yang lalai ialah hati yang tidak melaksanakan kewajiban yang harus dilaksanakan. Mereka adalah bangsa Arab keturunan Nabi Ismail yang belum pernah dikirim seorang rasul pun kepada mereka.
